"Responsible for using all his experience to guide id on our journey and stop us making silly mistakes along the way"
Dr Richard Henshell (born 1942) obtained a first, Marsden prize and Ph D in Mechanical Engineering at Nottingham University and then became a research fellow for two years before joining the lecturing staff. Near the start of his time working for his doctorate he founded with others the PAFEC suite of programs which became a service to industry for engineering calculations in 1972 run from within Nottingham University. By 1976 the PAFEC activities became too large for a university and were spun out to form a private company of the same name with Richard Henshell as Chairman, Managing Director and principal shareholder. The Company diversified into CAD and grew to employ over 300 staff at one time. In the 1990s PAFEC diversified further into document management and geographical information systems. PAFEC had operations in Germany, France, Belgium, USA and sold into 20 further countries. Richard Henshell, who speaks 5 languages, was the driving force behind this internationalisation.
In 1998, PAFEC was sold in a multi-million pound deal to the larger German Group SER and part of the arrangement was that the founder directors would stay for a while until new structures were in place and would then leave without remaining in competition. Another part of the arrangement was that three of the properties owned by PAFEC would be transferred to new ownership and managed by a new Company, Strelley Systems Ltd, with Richard and Marian Henshell as directors and the only shareholders.
The largest property managed by the Henshells is Strelley Hall which is a grade 2 listed building and over the 20 years of ownership, first by PAFEC, it has been restored from a very faded state to its present state as a high quality managed office. It is now 75% full with 23 tenant companies.
Since early 1999 he has been an associate of Cambashi Ltd, a software marketing consultancy and awareness company operating from Cambridge.
From early 2000, Strelley Systems refurbished and later (2004/5) running as a business centre the former College of Nursing in Mansfield which now has 25 tenant companies and is over 95% full.
From mid 2005, Strelley Systems has been refurbishing and running as a business centre a property in Worksop which now has 15 tenant companies and is over 90% full.
Since late 2000, he has been Chairman of brite-sparks Engineering Ltd.
Since late 2004, he has been Chairman of 360 Technologies Ltd
Since 2001, he was a non-executive director of Kontrolla Ltd formerly Transactions Services Ltd.
Since 1990 he has been special Professor at the University of Nottingham
From 1986 to 2005, he was Chairman of Pronovus Ltd formerly Qazar 7 Ltd.
