A Day in the Life of the Teams Channel Copilot Found Empty
The Problem
Microsoft Teams channels are easy to create.
Getting people to use them consistently is much harder.
Almost every organisation has one.
A project channel. A department channel. A working group. A steering committee. A place where collaboration was supposed to happen.
Everyone joined. Everyone agreed. Everyone liked the idea.
Then everybody carried on using email.
Or private chats. Or meetings. Or WhatsApp. Or “a quick call”.
The channel remained exactly where it was created.
Waiting patiently.
For years, this wasn’t necessarily a major problem.
People knew where information lived. Mostly. Until somebody needed to find it.

Then Copilot Turned Up
One day somebody asked:
“What has the project team been discussing?”
Copilot did exactly what it was supposed to do.
It opened Microsoft Teams.
It searched the project channel.
It looked through channel conversations.
Shared files. Posts. Replies. Mentions. Activity. Everything.
Surely the project team had been collaborating somewhere.

What Copilot Found
The channel wasn’t broken. It was empty.
Forty-seven members. One welcome message.
No meaningful discussions. No recorded decisions.
No captured knowledge. No project history.
The conversations existed. Just not there.
Copilot discovered that the project team had been working almost everywhere except the place designed for collaboration.
The emails contained updates. The private chats contained decisions.
The meetings contained context. The shared documents contained comments.
The channel contained tumbleweeds.
Copilot can search conversations incredibly quickly.
What it cannot do is find conversations that were never captured in the first place.
The problem wasn’t Microsoft Teams.
The problem was that nobody agreed where collaboration should happen.

How Intelligent Decisioning Can Help
At Intelligent Decisioning, we help organisations create collaboration environments that people actually use.
Technology alone doesn’t create collaboration.
Clarity does.
Using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 governance and Copilot readiness solutions, we help organisations:
Define how collaboration should happen
Create clear governance policies
Improve Microsoft Teams adoption
Reduce fragmented communication
Establish trusted locations for knowledge
Improve discoverability of information
Create better foundations for Copilot
Ensure conversations, files and decisions remain connected
The goal isn’t more Teams channels.
The goal is fewer places to look.
Because when everybody knows where information belongs, both people and AI become more effective.

A Day in the Life of the Teams Channel Copilot Found Empty
If Copilot searched your Teams channels today, what would it find?
A rich history of collaboration? Documented decisions? Shared project knowledge?
Or a welcome message from six months ago and a project team that’s been working somewhere else ever since?
If important conversations matter to your organisation, they need a home that both people and AI know how to find.
Talk to Intelligent Decisioning about creating a Microsoft 365 environment where collaboration becomes easier, knowledge becomes searchable and Copilot can deliver better answers.
