The Problem:
Rainbows Hospice is a leading children’s hospice in the East Midlands, providing vital care and support to babies, children and young people with life‑limiting conditions, along with their families. As a complex, people‑centric organisation with a wide range of clinical, care and support teams, ensuring that staff can easily access information and stay connected is critical to delivering consistent, high‑quality care.
Prior to the introduction of Mercury Intranet, Rainbows faced a number of common digital workplace challenges. Communication was fragmented across systems and teams, important updates were not always reaching the right people, and critical knowledge and documents were difficult to locate. Like many organisations, they also experienced inconsistent document management and limited knowledge sharing, leading to inefficiencies and time lost searching for information that should have been readily accessible.
This lack of a central, intuitive digital workplace made it harder for teams to collaborate effectively and for staff to stay informed, ultimately impacting day‑to‑day productivity in an environment where time and clarity are essential.

Our approach
Intelligent Decisioning took a structured, user‑focused approach to delivering Mercury Intranet at Rainbows Hospice, combining proven intranet accelerators with a tailored discovery process to ensure the solution aligned with the organisation’s clinical, care and operational needs. Leveraging Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online, Mercury Intranet was configured as a branded, central digital workplace, enabling rapid deployment while embedding best practice for communication, navigation and content management.
The implementation focused on bringing together fragmented systems into a single, intuitive platform, with clear information architecture, targeted communications and improved search, so staff could quickly find what they needed and collaborate more effectively across teams.
We are a technically imature company but once we had our head around the product we have very quickly been able to build and try different options. It is straightforward to use and we are building our skills quickly as a result.
Everyone had an excellent relationship with Nik. He suggested ideas to improve our wants. We were comfortable trying and failing in order to learn and felt supported by Nik at all times. Having the requirements, style guide from our own Marketing team and Nik’s input meant that we were able to provide a quality product but one that was simple to maintain and train.

Our solution
Leveraging Mercury as a modern SharePoint platform, our solution offered deep integration with Microsoft Teams, Exchange for Emails and Calendar, To-Do, and other relevant tools. By seamlessly adding Mercury Intranet as an app to the top of the main Teams navigation bar, Intelligent Decisioning ensured easy access without the need to switch applications. Additionally, Intelligent Decisioning implemented a Mercury Teams webpart that allowed SharePoint pages to provide personalised views of the Microsoft Teams that the user was a member of, further enhancing collaboration.
The outcome
The implementation of the Mercury Intranet brought significant value to Rainbows Hospice. The organisation now enjoys improved communication and collaboration across different locations, fostering a more integrated and efficient working environment. As a dedicated partner, Intelligent Decisioning continues to support Rainbows Hospice, facilitating their journey towards greater connectivity and productivity within the Digital Workplace.
